Why wind power?
Small-scale wind power—often referred to simply as “small wind”—combines the benefits of renewable energy production with the advantage of being one of the most cost-effective clean energy sources to produce. Furthermore, its 98% recyclability rate makes it one of the most eco-friendly renewable energy options on the market. The term applies to wind turbines with a capacity of less than 100 kilowatts, whether they operate off-grid or are connected to the electrical network.
Small-scale wind power aims to meet modest energy needs by providing a sustainable power supply. These domestic-scale turbines are primarily used in industrial and rural settings and are often paired with solar panels.
Small-scale urban wind turbines feature a vertical design specifically engineered for city environments. A vertical turbine can generate up to 5 kW of power. In urban areas, wind power is weaker but more turbulent; airflow direction and speed fluctuate rapidly, creating a particularly unstable environment. The most intense urban turbulence occurs at roof level—largely due to airflow deflection—and wind power in general serves as a way to demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development values.
